Elixir was written for Frazelle's friend Jeffery Kahane, who celebrated his fiftieth birthday in September of 2006.  The premiere took place at a gala hosted by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Frazelle's work is in the cantabile tradition of the Chopin Nocturnes.
