Season Finale: Lockhart and Moser

johannes moser brevard open air festivalKeith Lockhart and the Brevard Music Center Orchestra bring the 2013 season to an exciting finale with special guest, internationally renowned cellist Johannes Moser performing Elgar's elegiac cello concerto. The concert will close with Holst's beloved suite for large orchestra The Planets as we celebrate the end of another summer of outstanding music.

Walton and Ravel

Ken Lam leads the Brevard Sinfonia in an evening of music from the early twentieth century featuring works by Ravel and Walton. The concert opens with Ravel's orchestration of his own piano piece Alborada del gracioso, which beautifully blends demanding technical passages with Spanish musical themes. In a second offering from pianist Norman Krieger, he will perform the Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. The concert will close with a performance of English composer William Walton's first symphony.

Sheherazade

Ken Lam leads the Brevard Music Center Orchestra in a performance featuring one of Rimsky-Korsakov's most popular works--Scheherezade. Instantly recognizable by its opening violin solo, Scheherezade has become a favorite of audiences and performers alike. The evening will also feature classical rising star violinist Bella Hristova performing Max Bruch's Violin Concerto, a piece which has earned its own place as a staple of the orchestral repertoire.

Also Sprach Zarathustra

Legendary conductor Matthias Bamert leads the Brevard Music Center Orchestra in a performance of Richard Strauss' most recognizable tone poem, Also Sprach Zarathustra. Best known as the opening theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey, the work has become a favorite of both the symphonic world and pop culture. The concert also includes pianist Jean Louis Steuerman performing Mozart's beloved Piano Concerto no. 21 in C major.

Thibaudet Plays Saint-Saƫns

Keith Lockhart leads the Brevard Music Center Orchestra alongside one of the world's most sought-after soloists, Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Known for his electrifying and moving style, Thibaudet will perform Saint-Saëns' demanding fifth piano concerto. In addition, the concert will
feature Respighi's Roman Triptych which includes the all-time favorite Pines of Rome.

Grant Llewellyn leads the Brevard Sinfonia in concert with trumpet soloist Neal Berntsen performing Alexander Arutunian's Trumpet Concerto. The concert also includes Rameau's Les fêtes d'Hébé, Bartók's rousing Dance Suite and one of Debussy's most admired orchestral works, La Mer.

Llewellyn Conducts Tchaikovsky

Conductor Grant Llewellyn leads the Brevard Music Center Orchestra in an evening of orchestral favorites. The concert is bookended by two timelessly popular works - Debussy's L'apres-midi d'un faune (Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun) and Tchaikovsky's sixth symphony, "Pathetique." Rising star Ji-Yong rounds out the program with a performance of Chopin's Second Piano Concerto.

Yakushev Plays Rachmaninoff

Brevard Music Center Artistic Director Keith Lockhart takes the stage to lead the Brevard Sinfonia alongside pianist Ilya Yakushev for a performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3. This will mark Yakushev's third appearance at the Music Center, and the latest in a series of powerhouse performances that have become an audience favorite.

JoAnn Falletta leads the Brevard Sinfonia in an afternoon of music inspired by Spain. Featuring music by Rimsky-Korsakov, Debussy, and Falla, the concert will showcase guitar virtuoso Celil Refik Kaya, winner of the 2012 JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition, as he joins the orchestra for a performance of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranuez.

The Brevard Music center kicks off its 2013 season with Principal Guest Conductor JoAnn Falletta leading the Brevard Music Center Orchestra. The concert will feature Borodin's Overture to his opera Prince Igor, Prokofiev's beloved Suite from Romeo and Juliet and will close with 19 year old virtuoso Conrad Tao performing Tchaikovsky's powerful Piano Concerto No. 1.
