Tom Burge

Host, Sunday Evening with Tom Burge

Tom BurgeWhen he's not sharing the classics on WDAV, you'll find Tom Burge playing his trombone and living a life of music. He is currently the Second Trombonist with the Charlotte Symphony, an adjunct faculty member at Davidson College as well as a member of the faculty of Lenoir Rhyne University.

During his study time he became a fellowship recipient at the Aspen Music Festival, the National Orchestral Institute in Maryland and Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan.

Tom has an extensive performance resume both in the United States and his native Australia. It includes: full time positions with the Jacksonville Symphony, Charleston Symphony (SC), and Canberra Symphony Orchestra (AUS); extended contracts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras; substitutions with New York Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony, and Sydney Symphony to name a few; conducting posts with the Canberra Choral Society, and the Canberra Youth Music Concert Band and Wind Symphony; Artistic Director of the nationally acclaimed Hall Village Brass Band; and solo gigs at numerous international music festivals including the International 'Tubamania' Brass Conference and the North Carolina Trombone Symposium. He has been awarded numerous Australian National and and State Open Solo Trombone titles.

Tom is also much in demand as an teacher and has previously been Trombone Instructor at South Carolina State University and Professor of Trombone and Brass Chair at the Australian National University School of Music. Tom Burge sports his creation, the WDAV tie-dyeHe's also given masterclasses NSW State (Sydney), Newcastle and Queensland Conservatories, Cleveland Institute of Music, Baldwin Wallace College, Gardner Webb University, Marist College Poughkeepsie, West Point Academy NY and many more.

While the rest of the WDAV staff are in awe of Tom's musical accomplishments and are proud to have an Aussie on the team, they are truly blown away by his talent for creating one-of-a-kind tie-dye t-shirts and are hoping for a full line of Burge designed WDAV wear in the future.
