  • Three artists investigate the human condition & its effects on the environment by expressing the subject in the context of human values & contemporary culture. They take a look at conventional representations of nature to push boundaries & offer interesting ways to evoke emotional responses. Ken Hoffman uses a surreal approach to the human form in Animals Great & Small. His anthropomorphic animal portrait paintings convey animal-people expressions & show how close humans are to animal counterparts. Known for darker, chaotic landscapes, Brian Mashburn’s series, Maisma, centers on the unrestrained sprawl of cities, pollution of industry, & overpopulation. Interested in the interaction between man & nature, he explores cause, effect, & the accumulation of actions. On the Precipice by Kevin Palme is an ongoing study derived from his interest in places, landscapes,& memories. The works are visual meditations on memories of times & places undergoing transition.
