Station Activity Survey Narrative
Each year, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting requests that we provide a narrative including special, innovative efforts in which we are involved by asking us five important questions about our public radio station. Read our Local Content and Service Report: Telling Public Radio’s Story.
Classical Music is for Everyone
WDAV Classical Public Radio, a listener-supported service of Davidson College, celebrates the power of classical music and the arts to unite, inspire, and transform communities. Our mission is to enrich lives and build community through inclusive and diverse classical music experiences and excellent, accessible content. In the spirit of our mission, WDAV produces and airs programming that invites all people to discover and enjoy classical music.
WDAV is dedicated to showcasing the rich diversity of talented musicians and composers that have always been present in classical music, while also creating opportunities for new voices to be heard. We celebrate the extraordinary work of musicians from all backgrounds who have made vital contributions to the genre of classical music. We are proud to bring the joy of classical music into urban and suburban areas as well as rural and remote communities to ensure that classical music and the arts remain accessible to everyone. We are committed to representing the full spectrum of listeners through the content we produce and broadcast.
In addition to expanding reach through our programming content, WDAV aspires to have our staff and governing boards reflect the backgrounds and lived experiences of the communities we serve. To that end, we actively recruit for and welcome highly-qualified candidates from all backgrounds.
As a public media organization, we proudly acknowledge our unique opportunity to shape an inclusive future for classical music, and we commit to ensuring that our programming, policies, and practices faithfully represent and serve our entire community. We are dedicated to the important work of expanding our repertoire, our partnerships, and our pathways for engagement with classical music. Along with our advisory and governing boards, listeners, and community partners, WDAV is building a classical music community where everyone belongs and every voice can thrive.
