Hosted by Loki Karuna

If you have siblings, you probably understand the delicate balance between a peaceful household, and well, the alternative. Sibling rivalry and tension is only natural, but over the course of history it’s also been seen what’s possible when siblings decide to collaborate in toward a shared goal – certainly in the world of music. Hello, I’m Loki Karuna and on this edition of Noteworthy it’s not sibling rivalry, but rather, sibling unity, as realized by Anthony and Demarre McGill.

Anthony and Demarre hail from Chicago, where their journeys as musicians began: Anthony with the clarinet and Damarre, with the flute. As their respective careers flourished, separately, their ability to play together also continued to develop. In 2018, they both returned to Chicago to collaborate with the local youth symphony, creating this clarinet and flute feature by Michael Abels called Winged Creatures.

Just like the two wings on that proverbial winged creature, the McGill brothers continue to work both separately and together, inspiring the next generation to take flight in ways that push the industry into the future. Anthony and Demarre McGill: two of today’s most celebrated musicians, and one of history’s most Noteworthy set of siblings.

Noteworthy is a production of WDAV classical public radio.
